Recipe: Puff Puff Pale

Helix Brewing's owner and head brewer shares a recipe for a truly dank pale ale

As part of our second-annual Homebrew Summer program, various San Diego County breweries will be sharing recipes for some of their most popular beers, which have been scaled-down for amateur brewers to try their hands at from the comfort of home.

Next up on the professional-to-recreational info-sharing train is the recipe for Puff Puff, a San Diego-style pale ale that utilizes modern darling hops to bring forth a distinct dankness along with myriad tropical-fruit flavors. This beer is a fan favorite and can typically be found on-tap at Helix’s La Mesa tasting room. And now it can be a staple in your fridge after you conjure it to life on your homebrew rig.

Check back to San Diego Beer News throughout the summer for more recipes as well as release dates for beers developed by local homebrewers which will be brewed at local breweries and tapped in their tasting rooms. It’s going to be a great summer for homebrewers and beer fans alike, and we want you to be a part of it!

Helix’s San Diego-style pale ale, Puff Puff Pale, is an explosion of tropical hop dankness. Australian Galaxy and Mosaic hops play in unison within this clean pale ale to provide vibrant aromatics. Puff Puff will not clear up if brewed correctly and the hop oils are left infused in suspension. Cruising at 5.5% ABV (alcohol-by-volume), this is a daily beer that you can enjoy while cruising through all the fun San Diego has to offer.”
