Board & Brew surprises Urban Surf 4 Kids
Local sandwich shop donates $10,000 to San Diego non-profit's mentoring program for local foster youth
Earlier today, Urban Surf 4 Kids was surprised by a generous $10,000 donation made by San Diego County sandwich shop, Board & Brew. Franchise owners, Clayton Wheeler and Craig Applegate presented Urban Surf 4 Kids with a giant check on the shores of Cardiff Beach in support of healing programs for local foster youth. The local non-profit organization offers surf therapy and mentoring programs for children living in foster care.
Board & Brew, a brand with a flagship location in Del Mar which opened in 1979, is best known for its “secret sauce,” “Turkado” sandwiches and cold craft brews. The well-established brand has continuously expanded with 24 locations throughout Southern California, including its most recent opening in Encinitas.
“We are beyond grateful for the support Urban Surf 4 Kids has received from Board & Brew over the past 10 years,” said Urban Surf 4 Kids Board President Craig Jenkins, . “Clayton has been an avid champion for local foster youth through our mission and now this generous gift from the Board & Brew team came at a critical time to help fund the launch of our mentoring program next month. We are so appreciative!”
“I have been fortunate enough to volunteer with Urban Surf on multiple occasions, getting into the ocean with kids for their first time and teaching them how to surf, and you can see the joy they experience,” says Wheeler. “Urban Surf 4 Kids has been inspiring! Seeing the work and effort they put in to every child that joins their program, and the results from the experiences these children have with US4K is amazing.”
