Pure Project’s Vista patio now open

Fast-growing brewery launches outdoor service at its North County headquarters

When Iron Fist Brewing closed its doors after a decade in business, its 13,850-square-foot Vista brewery and tasting room was highly sought after by numerous smaller breweries looking to expand their production capabilities. In the end, Miramar’s fast-growing Pure Project Brewing secured the spot and has spent the past five months making it its own. While the indoor tasting room remains a work-in-progress, the company will officially open its patio to the public today at 3 p.m.

“We have long respected the craft breweries in the Vista area,” says Pure Project co-founder Mat Robar. “We are honored and excited to join the community here.”

The Vista facility’s patio seats up to 54 visitors across 14 tables. Additionally, there are roughly a dozen picnic tables set up around the front entrance. Nine beers are currently on tap. The company expects to open the indoor tasting room come summer. And down south in North Park, Pure Project is at work on a 7,000-square-foot satellite tasting room that will feature an even larger outdoor-imbibing component. That spot, which is located on El Cajon Boulevard, just west of 30th Street, is on track to open this summer.

It’s been another year of huge growth for the company, something its leaders don’t take lightly. “We have been incredibly fortunate that we have outgrown our first home in Miramar,” says Pure Project co-founder Jesse Pine. “After years there, it was time to branch out and find a larger facility that would allow us to expand brewing operations, and the Vista space will do just that. We’re planning to increase production from 4,000 barrels per year to over 10,000 in the next few years.”

To stay updated on progress at Pure Project’s Vista location, the company advises fans to follow their venue-specific Instagram account. The indoor tasting room is being remodeled to fall in line with the eco-friendly company’s established aesthetic. It will feature natural wood, including a live-edge pecan bar top, plus greenery and windows to bring in plenty of natural light. For now, the patio is open from 3 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3 to 10 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
