Beer of the Week: Hide Site

Protector Brewery celebrates the arrival of its new taproom with help from friends at Societe Brewing

After seven years at its semi-obscure Miralani Makers’ District headquarters, it’s finally time for Protector Brewery to come out of hiding by grand-opening its new high-profile tasting room on downtown San Diego’s bayfront. Installed on the base level of the Intercontinental San Diego Hotel, it goes by the name “Hide Site”, as does this week’s featured beer, Hide Site IPA. Protector’s founder, Navy SEAL turned ale-and-lager entrepreneur Sean Haggerty, brought in reinforcements from Kearny Mesa-based Societe Brewing when crafting this hop-forward beer, a soft West Coast IPA featuring huge tropical-fruit flavors and aromas followed by a green, dank finish. Those characteristics come from Cascade and Mosaic hops, which, like 100% of the ingredients in this and all of Protector’s beers, are organic. The release of this collaborative hop-bomb was specifically timed to coincide with his new venue’s grand-opening, which will take place on Thursday, July 4. Visitors are encouraged to park in the structure beneath the Intercontinental. Protector will validate one hour or parking with a minimum purchase of $20. Hide Site and the company’s other core beers will be available on tap as well as in four-packs of 16-ounce cans. (The latter should help guests hit that minimum.) Can’t make it to the official reveal? No problem. The Hide Site will introduce another enticing reason to head downtown come late-July or early-August, the launch of a menu of artisan pizzas and salads prepared using choice organic ingredients.

We are stoked to release this collab with our friends at Societe Brewing to open up our new location! We crafted up this unfiltered American IPA that hits full and piney on the aroma, dank and flavorful in the taste, and balanced in the finish. Brewed with only USDA-certified organic hops, malts and yeast, it comes in at 7% alcohol-by-volume. The can showcases the Bone Frog, which pays tribute to the heritage of SEAL Teams dating back to our roots as World War II ‘frogmen’. This brew shares its name with that of our new location, the ‘Hide Site’. A hide Site is simply an observation point concealed with natural elements, which is a fitting name given the prime San Diego bayfront view and the fact we’re serving up USDA-certified organic brews. Come out and grab a seat to enjoy beers and the July 4th fireworks while helping us launch this new location right!”
