2023 Homebrew Summer pro-am beers

Find out which breweries and local homebrewers will be producing pro-am beers as part of third-annual San Diego Beer News initiative

Next week will mark not only the start of summer, but the launch of our third-annual Homebrew Summer program, wherein we connect San Diego’s professional and amateur brewers in a variety of fun and educational ways. In addition to publishing homebrew-scaled versions of local beers provided by the breweries that make them, we also facilitate the brewing of pro-am beers. The latter involves local homebrewers producing their ale and lager recipes at local breweries and brewpubs, then having their beers released to the public.

Since 2021, 30 local brewing companies have worked with homebrewers to produce 33 beers. This year, we have 14 commercial breweries from North County to San Diego proper, inland to the coast, teaming with recreational fermentationists to brew and release 15 beers.

The following are all of this year’s participating breweries, their homebrewer partners and the styles of beers they’ll produce.

Throughout the summer, San Diego Beer News will not only keep you up-to-date on when the above pro-am beers will be tapped. Thanks to the generosity of the brewers involved and our partners at Home Brew Mart, we will also share homebrew-scaled recipes for those beers so that you can produce them at home. Along the way, we’ll also share recipes for beers from local operations, including Division 23 Brewing, Helix Brewing and Mcilhenney Brewing.

So if you don’t already follow San Diego Beer News on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, go ahead and do so. You can also subscribe to our free weekly email newsletter, where we’ll also provide info on the beers and access to the recipes along with exciting news about the San Diego brewing industry. Cheers to San Diego beer and the craftspeople brewing it up on every level!
