Beachwood Melrose | West Coast IPA (7.1%): Do you enjoy flagship IPAs such as Just Outstanding by Kern River or Duet by Alpine? Then whether you realize it or not, you appreciate the incredible hop combination of Simcoe and Amarillo (the “Duet” in question)! Simcoe brings pine-tree resins and cattiness, while Amarillo gives off wild orange aromas, making for a beautiful dyad. Melrose by Beachwood also utilizes these two varietals, augmented by a touch of “honey” malt atop the 2-row to balance the unabashed bitterness.

Solaris / Highland Park Oh Earth! Oh Sun! | Helles Lager (4.7%): Marking the debut of Solaris Brewing at Bottlecraft North Park is this elegantly delicate collaboration with Highland Park Brewing. Gently hopped with Saphir for a faintly citric overtone, this pale lager is immensely refreshing. Saphir (= sapphire) is one of the many varietals developed at the Hopfenforschungszentrum (Hops Research Center) in Hüll, smack dab in the Hallertau growing region of Bavaria. We received a number of other beers from Solaris out of Murrieta on this inaugural drop, so swing on by to taste their wares!

Brasserie de la Senne / Cantillon Wadesda #9 | Tripel / Lambic Cuvée (8%): It would be remiss of me not to mention the new arrival from Brasserie de la Senne, the great common denominator of Brussels. Fanatical about whole-cone hops, de la Senne is best known for Taras Boulba, a low-ABV hoppy blonde named after the titular Gogol character. Having teamed up with Brasserie Cantillon in the past, this beer is something of a command performance – a Tripel blended with true lambic. Cantillon has generously and graciously selected Bottlecraft Little Italy as one host of Zwanze Day 2024 this Saturday the 20th – in the runup to that honored occasion, give this one a whirl to awaken your taste-buds!
