As we enter the penultimate week of the 2026 World Cup, many favorites have gone home. Yet the show must go on! Following are three selections that pay homage to the largest sporting event in the world:
Humble Sea Gooooooooold Fish | West Coast Pale Ale (5.4%): With their signature insouciance and love of punning names, the kooks at Humble Sea Brewing in Santa Cruz keep a healthy levity going. It’s only beer after all! This latest pale ale from them, generously hopped with Simcoe and Copper, recreates an image of the golden trophy that one skilled national team will hold aloft next Sunday the 19th. Rather than a golden ball however, a rotund goldfish (looking very surprised) makes up the spherical topper. Many more goals to meet in the coming days!
Fieldwork Full Kit Wanker | Hazy IPA (6.9%): A jocular insult in the UK, the title of this beer refers to the person who chooses to wear the entire football uniform ‒ jersey, shorts, pulled-up socks and all ‒ while not actually playing in a match (or indeed able to play at all). This is in counterpoint to regular fans who content themselves with the top portion worn on their torsos to display and demonstrate their allegiances. Taking inspiration from the global nature of the beautiful game, Fieldwork Brewing has sourced hops from around the world ‒ Mosaic from the Pacific Northwest, Nelson from New Zealand, Galaxy from Australia and East Kent Goldings from England ‒ for this juicy, hazy IPA.
Shacksbury Upper 90 World Cup Edition Classic Dry | Dry Cider (5.2%): Right, so this is not a beer, but rather a cider. But please indulge me; this cider is delicious and the special packaging meets this week’s theme. Shacksbury Cider in Vermont makes some of the best canned cider we can lay hands on ‒ I have been enjoying their output for well-neigh on 15 years now. Their flagship Classic Dry is a staple both on our shelves at Bottlecraft and in my fridge at home, being a dry cider comprised mainly of Dabinett apples. This varietal of Somerset origins flourishes in both Englands, Old and New alike, and makes for excellent ciders low in residual sugars. The Upper 90 refers to the top two corners of the football net which meet at 90-degree angles to the posts, said to be the most difficult sections for ke on Norway this weekend!* Enjoy while watching England take on Norway this weekend!
