A very special all-Timbo edition this week!
Highland Park Timbo Pils | Hoppy Pilsner (5.8%): The Timbo that started it all. A beer so beloved that it now has an entire week devoted to it. The Pilsner whose recipe is brewed (with permission!) by craft brewing friends of Highland Park Brewery, constituting a veritable multiverse. There are many Timbos in this world, but this one is the ur-Timbo. Appealing to those who love hops and those who love lagers, Timbo will pull at your heartstrings like the disembodied blue hands on the label plucking notes from the guitar neck. Citra and Mosaic hops over a clean lager base, and such a reasonably low ABV (alcohol-by-volume) too ‒ who could ask for anything more?
Cellarmaker Timbo Pils | Hoppy Pilsner (5.8%): The second beer on our Picks list this week is… *checks notes* … also Timbo? Yes indeed, with this iteration emanating from Cellarmaker Brewing in my hometown of Berkeley. I have fond memories of visiting the then-new headquarters three years ago, shortly after the move across the Bay from San Francisco, and walking off with a four-pack of fresh Timbo. Cellarmaker really cranks up the hops on this one, so be forewarned!
Alvarado Street Timbo Pils | Hoppy Pilsner (5.8%): All right, stop me if you think that you’ve heard this one before ‒ Timbo Pils! This is the Timbo that we have in the largest quantities thanks to Alvarado Street Brewery’s munificence. Deliveries from this beloved Monterey/Salinas operation do not come our way super-frequently, so when we saw Timbo on the docket it was a no-brainer. To my palate, this Timbo comes across as crisp and snappy…but maybe pick up a can each of all three and taste them side-by-side?
