Fair Isle Renée | Oak-aged Farmhouse Ale (5.5%): Back in February, kegs (but not bottles) of this delectable farmhouse ale came our way. Almost to a person, our staff fell hard for it and recommended it to all and sundry. A gentle mélange of rustic, funky and aromatically hoppy makes this beer a master class in delicate balance. Dry-hopping with Dolcita and Krush imparts a delightful stone-fruit character, which will fade in time as the wild Brettanomyces yeast take over. Enjoy now or wait to see how Renée will develop!
de Garde The Anniversary | Sour Cuvée (5.5%): The mercurial de Garde Brewing up in Tillamook on the Oregon coastline has been spontaneously fermenting beers for 13 years now. By sheer coincidence, Bottlecraft North Park also turned 13 this year! By dint of tradition, de Garde will come up with a blend of their long-aged sour ales so as to alchemize a new creation for their anniversary releases. This iteration combines three- and six-year-aged beers left to slumber in sherry casks. It’s a one-of-a-kind beer, not to be repeated.
There Does Not Exist Black Antler | Barleywine (11.1%): Barleywine season may typically fall in January and February, but that will not stymie There Does Not Exist! This San Luis Obispo operation ‒ with its distinct black-and-white aesthetic and startlingly low pricing ‒ can always be counted on for excellent beer. Black Antler is for those who love malt ‒ endless layers of specialty malts, with vanilla sourced from Brazil to boot. If you enjoy drinking a barleywine in the summertime, go for it!
