El Segundo / Pizza Port Surfin’ Bird | West Coast Double IPA (8%): First brewed in 2017 and only spied once in a great while, the Surfin’ Bird returns for one last wave! Produced at El Segundo Brewing in collaboration with Pizza Port, this is a self-assured West Coast double IPA with Citra, Idaho 7 and Loral hops. The artistic rendering of a giant chicken riding a surfboard towards shore was carried out by artist Steve Nazar, famed as the creator of the character of Thrilla Gorilla on behalf of Town & Country Surf Designs. Sadly, Steve passed away last year; the communiqué from El Segundo implies that this will be the bird’s final outing. Don’t you know about the bird? Well everybody knows the bird is the word!
Wayfinder Oath | Kellerbier (5.1%): For those seeking a rustic Pilsner for the first week of summer, look no further than this new release from Wayfinder Beer! With a base of Belgian Pilsner malt as well as spelt from Linc Malt (a maltster co-op in eastern Washington, praised to the skies by the likes of Fair Isle Brewing), this unfiltered lager is hopped with Mount Hood for herbal lemon-balm tones. Remember your oath!
Everywhere Essence of Now | Fruited Sour Ale (6.9%): Everywhere Beer is on a tear! Fresh off an expansion to Long Beach, the Orange-based brewery has just opened a location within Union Station in Los Angeles. Two of our dedicated regulars recently took a train ride up in that direction so as to deliberately have a beer there upon disembarking! On top of all of that, a new sour release has come into the shop, alongside a bevy of their delicious lagers and hoppy offerings. A self-described “Summer Solstice Sour”, this one is loaded with mango, passionfruit and raspberry ‒ a tropical delight of a tart refresher.
