Highland Park Scattered Density | Hazy Double IPA (8%): A collaboration beer with Troon Brewing out of New Jersey, this new-wave hazy double IPA is a revelation. Not only is the hop-bill entirely composed of New Zealand varietals, but one of them is entirely new to our shores. Fans of Nelson Sauvin may already recognize Freestyle Farms as a top-class producer. Now meet a grow operation in the same neighborhood, Eggers Hops. Descended from German immigrants to the South Island, the Eggers family has been cultivating hops for over a century and a half, making them unquestionable experts in the field. This is my first encounter with their proprietary varietal, Eggers Special, alongside NZ-grown Cascade, old standby Nelson and Motueka in the form of hop Kief. This newfangled method of adding hops ‒ despite etymological origins in the Kif mountains of Morocco ‒ is not a powder or crystalline matter, but rather a compressed foaming liquid not unlike a whipped-cream canister. The sensory results are spectacular, with lychee, Key lime and pineapple characteristics.

Fieldwork Vox Pop | West Coast IPA (6.9%): A mysterious mélange of hops festoon this lean West Coast IPA, with Mosaic underpinnings but also some surprise cameos. The bright and berry-toned Australian varietal, Enigma, is joined by the bergamot-inflected Idaho 7 and the immortal Centennial. The lattermost was originally bred as a sort of “super Cascade” after Sierra Nevada Brewing brought the world’s attention to the grapefruity and resinous possibilities of the Pacific Northwest, and is perhaps best-known as the soloist in Bell’s Brewery’s Two Hearted Ale. Short for Vox Populi, meaning “voice of the people”, Vox Pop has become a journalistic shorthand for unrehearsed short interviews with the proverbial person on the street. Try this beer and let us know your opinion!

Burgeon Single Source | Wet-hopped IPA (6.5%): The first wet-hopped IPA of the year hit our coolers on Wednesday, September 20! A West Coast IPA brewed with fresh Strata cones, this beer was limited to just a single case per account and will not last long. If cans elude you, please swing by Bottlecraft North Park in the coming days to taste it on draft, as Burgeon Beer Co. was generous enough to allocate us a keg. Cheers to wet hop season!
