El Segundo / Riip No Comply! | West oat IPA (6.8%): Two Southern Californian masters of the West Coast IPA have teamed up once again for a hop-bomb for us all! A sequel to the original No Comply! brew ‒ this iteration has the subtitle “Never Say Die!” ‒ this westie is loaded with Columbus Cryo, Mosaic, Motueka and Strata. Herbal and laden with pine bitterness, this is an assertive and bracing brew! The can-art ‒ drawn by surf artist Damian Fulton ‒ depicts a hop monster stomping on its skateboard while cans labeled “Seltzer” and “Slushy” cower in fear. Do not comply in advance!

Heater Allen Bobtoberfest | Märzen (5.6%): A seasonal lager and also a tribute to a dearly departed family member ‒ Heater Allen in a nutshell. Dedicated to (and named after) Bob Allen, the brother of original owner Rick Allen and uncle to current co-owner Lisa Allen, this is a lager driven by both Munich and Vienna malts. Bob is given credit for encouraging Rick to focus upon brewing lagers in general and Oktoberfest-style beers in particular, and sadly passed away from cancer two decades ago. Drink this beer in remembrance!

AleSmith / Modern Times Barrel-aged Speedway tout Monster’s Park Chocolate Espresso Edition 2025 | Barrel-aged Imperial Stout Cuvée (13.6%): Speedway Stout from Mira Mar operation AleSmith arguably defined coffee-infused beers for a generation of San Diegans. The Monster’s Park series from Modern Times Beer in subsequent years added a substratum of imperial stouts to the local scene and made for a broad canvas upon which to paint. This black can with glinting gold accents holds a blend of both within ‒ the Speedway aged up in used bourbon barrels and the whole shebang infused with espresso and cacao nibs. A hulking beast of a beer, this is for drinking slowly or splitting (or both!).
