Russian River Bring Back Brewer’s Gold | Hazy IPA (6.5%): The RnD series from Russian River Brewing consists of one-off IPAs ‒ often with experimental hops ‒ to be enjoyed briefly and then never seen again. This beer is thus quite a departure, being both one such recipe resurrected from the vault and given a real name, and also showcasing a historic varietal! Once known as “RnD #54 Hazy IPA”, the moniker demands the return of Brewer’s Gold, which date back more than a century. Russian River developed this offering in conjunction with CLS Farms in the Yakima Valley, famed for their hops throughout the length and breadth of the brewing world.

OEC Oktoberfest | Festbier (4.9%): For decades, B. United International has imported an esoteric blend of beers and other beverages from Europe and Japan, funneling them through their Connecticut headquarters. In recent years, they have embraced innovative methods of delivering fresh imported beer by shipping tankers of the stuff over the oceans to be canned off at that selfsame facility. The cans of Aecht Schlenkerla and Hitachino Nest (to name but two of the best) that you see on our shelves emanate from that process. Hosting that canning line is Ordinem Ecentrici Coctores (OEC), a dog-Latin translation of “Order of the Eccentric Boilers”, a brewery with a surfeit of talent. Their Oktoberfest is quietly spectacular, a tour de force for the autumnal lager style.

Jester King 分 桃 Fēn Táo | Barrel-aged Sour Beer (6%): Jester King is renowned as the foremost sour brewery in Texas (if not the entire American South) ‒ their farmstead in the Hill Country outside of Austin is an absolute must for any beer-lover passing through the area. Complex and beautiful mixed-fermentation ales are aged up in oak before meeting and mingling with the fruits that will determine their destinies. This all too rare release is liberally dosed with peaches from Vogel Orchard just down the road from the brewhouse. The result is showstopping ‒ acid funk juicy peach flesh with slight tannin from the skins.
