Gene Fielden | North Park Bottlecraft Manager

Fieldwork Imaginator | Hazy IPA (6.8%): Good news, everyone! We just received the largest pallet of Fieldwork Brewing bees in a very long time. The celebrated Berkeley brewery will surely have popped up on the draft-list at every Bottlecraft location by the time you read this. Moreover, a smattering of cans were included on the docket, not least of which is this newcomer to our shelves. An all-Nelson hazy IPA‒a cuvée of that wondrous varietal grown at two separate farms on the south island of New Zealand‒Imaginator imparts every aroma on the Nelson spectrum imaginable. Fieldwork releases tend to run out quickly around here, so stop by before this beer fades back into the realm of imagination.

Enegren Leicht | Leichtbier (3.7%): Why go big when you can go small? A rebrew of their eleventh anniversary lager, Enegren has shrunken the malt bill on a German-style pilsner recipe down to a crushable 3.7% (alcohol-by-volume). An all-malt light lager (without corn or rice, as is the case with most industrial macro lagers) is something to behold, especially as the temperature spikes. The beer sports a cheeky label echoing a certain Rocky Mountain brand and a cheerful insouciance towards the mega-conglomerates that dominate the beer market in this country. Ironically, Enegren now may need to rename one of its core beers…as it is no longer the Lightest One!

Japas Kapibara | Gose (4.4%): The capybara is the largest rodent in the world*, to be found all over South American as well as upon the label of this beer. Cervejaria Japas has emblazoned the creature emerging from a watermelon in a highly absurdist aesthetic…and why not? Spelled both in Portuguese and Japanese to reflect their multifarious self-identity, the women behind this Brazilian brewery have embraced the tart, slightly salty Gose and given it a dose of watermelon and ginger for good measure. Four capybara cubs have just joined the dramatis personae at the San Diego Zoo. Go meet your new neighbors after drinking their namesake beer. Saúde / Kanpai!
