Cellarmaker Double Dobis | Hazy Double IPA (8.2%): For those who love Citra! Cellarmaker Brewing has many beers containing the term “Dobis”, all of which are saturated with 100% Citra hops. With lupulin material emanating from multiple lots as well as the selfsame varietal in Cryo form, this beer runs the gamut of possible aromatic expressions ‒ pineapple, Cara Cara oranges and a certain resinous quality. Drink now, for it it is not getting any fresher!
Wayfinder Kollaps | Kölsch (4.7): A well-made Kölsch is a thing of beauty. A direct response to the Pilsner wave that washed out of Bohemia and Bavaria in the mid-1800s, this style came to fruition in the western German city of Köln (Cologne for Anglophones and Francophones). Maintaining the bright golden malt of the Pilsner style as well as filtration for brilliant transparency but utilizing an ale yeast, a Kölsch is light-bodied with a whiff of esterification, like a good dry Riesling. Reminding us that lagering is a process and not just a family of beers, this is a top-fermented lager! With the world-famous Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral) on the label, Wayfinder Beer pays homage to this style’s origins and home city.
Grimm Ambient Fizz: Raspberries | Fruited Sour Ale (4.5%): While Grimm Artisan Ales may be better-known for IPAs (both hazy and otherwise), the sour beers that emanate outward from this Brooklyn operation are worth a taste as well! This particular offering is spontaneously fermented (hence “ambient”) and aged up in oak for some tannic structure, then studded with raspberries. The low ABV (alcohol by-volume) makes this an excellent early-afternoon sour beer.
