Beachwood LBC IPA | West Coast IPA (6.7%): With so much drama in the LBC, it means a lot to run the shop at BCNP. For I, somehow, some way, keep coming up with beer-related content like every single day. A pungent West Coast IPA with the stickiest hops around, this IPA is a statement of purpose from our friends at Beachwood Brewing out of Long Beach City. Served up in 12-ounce cans at an affordable price, beers such as these count as one of life’s little luxuries.
Fair State / Bierstadt Side Pull | Czech-style Pale Lager (4.1%): Perhaps you have seen those curious-looking taps around town of late ‒ at Bottlecraft Little Italy, say, or North Park Beer Co. I am referring to Lukr faucets (pronounced: “LUKE-rr”, clicking or rolling the r at the end), a masterful example of Czech craftsmanship. These gorgeous vehicles for beer delivery are pulled from the side rather than the top down and allow your beertender to calibrate the level of foam in your glass. Such attention to detail may not seem important at first glance, but trust me when I say that this matters a lot for lagers of all stripes. This collaborative světlé (“pale”) lager between Fair State Brewing Cooperative out of northeast Minneapolis and the inimitable Bierstadt Lagerhaus from Denver will taste great out of a can, as well, but give it a try poured from a Lukr for thematic consistency! I have it on good authority that it will be offered as such at Bock Bar in South Park sooner than later…
Prairie Spicy Pickle Monster | Sour Ale (5.5%): If you have a favorite flavor combination ‒ whether fruits, vegetables or dessert ‒ there is a good chance that Prairie Artisan Ales has made a sour beer out of it. Core offering Rainbow Sherbet smells so precisely like its namesake that it could be mistaken blind for the real McCoy. Similarly, the autumnal release Pumpkin Pie Treat hits all the cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and toasted marshmallow notes one might expect from the baked good. And so it is as well with the bizarrely inventive Spicy Pickle Monster: a salty dill tart ale, which tastes even better with a splash of gin.
