Highland Park Hello, LA | West Coast IPA (6.8%): How has the flagship IPA by Highland Park Brewery never yet been profiled in the pages of this column? I must beg my readers’ forgiveness for this previous oversight. The pride of Los Angeles, this brewery makes flawless beers across the board. Hello, LA is a pitch-perfect expression of Citra and Mosaic hops working in harmony. I will be drinking a few of these this weekend and I suggest you do too!
Wayfinder / Bierstadt Infinite Hotel | Rice Lager (5.1%): Any Wayfinder Beer lager is worth drinking, and any Bierstadt Lagerhaus beer is a rarity around here. This crisp rice lager collab between the two outstanding breweries thus makes for an absolute no-brainer. Still wavering? Drop by Bottlecraft North Park for a taste off the draft-line before making a decision on cans! With generous carbonation and a lithe body, you may want to extend your stay at the Infinite Hotel.
Off Color Beer For Tacos | Lime Gose (4.8%): Though hailing from the Windy City, this creation by John Laffler combines two inexorable San Diego pastimes ‒ tacos and craft beer. A salted tart wheat ale with a touch of coriander and a healthy dose of lime juice, Beer For Tacos more than lives up to its moniker. The can’s whimsical pen-drawn artwork depicting Off Color’s nameless mouse mascot holding up a taco far larger than itself while surrounded by cacti rounds it all out. No food-pairing recommendation necessary with this one!
