Highland Park Wowee | Hazy IPA (7.3%): The title of this beer is no misnomer! Wowee encapsulates the pure delight of 100% Nelson hops in a dynamite hazy IPA made by one of the finest breweries in Southern California. Highland Park Brewery only makes sporadic appearances in San Diego, making this gem of a beer all the more enjoyable. Drink this while listening to Pavement’s Wowee Zowee.

Moonlight Reality Czeck | Czech-style Pilsner (4.9%): Reality Czeck only missed inclusion in last week’s all-Moonlight column merely due to the fact that three beers is our (entirely arbitrary) maximum. Snappy and herbal like the pilsners of western Bohemia, with a delicate spiciness from the Noble hops. Since distribution of this beer hit cans in my native Bay Area, I have become an enthusiastic purchaser of it at the original Berkeley Bowl, just two blocks from my father’s house. It thus brings me immense joy to be able to gaze upon it at my place of work. More Moonlight releases to come this spring, so watch these pages…webpages, that is.

Sante Adairius Rustic Ales Saison Bernice | Mixed-Fermentation Saison (6.5%): Saison Bernice is a truly iconic beer and a calling card. Some breweries have a single beer that encapsulates their entire ethos, one which is pointed to as the ideal first impression and most frequently consumed. Bernice embodies that for Santa Adairius Rustic Ales. If you must only limit yourself to a single beer by SARA, make it this one. Upon spying it on our shelves when it first dropped a year ago, a longtime industry regular said to me: “This is my favorite beer.” No qualifications, exceptions or reservations. Soft, effervescent cereal malt combines with multiple yeast strains for a sense of delicate eggshell funk. I will be taking home more than one bottle of this, and I recommend that you do, too.
