Everywhere Joyful Intuition | Hazy IPA (6.5%): It takes an awful lot of skill to be awarded a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival ‒ and that goes double for highly contested categories. It was thus a tremendous vindication for fans of Everywhere Beer Co. out of Orange, California, when this beer took top marks in the Juicy or Hazy Strong Pale Ale (as the division is rather awkwardly named) just six months ago. With our old pal Citra, the melon-esque El Dorado and Motueka (my favorite New Zealand varietal), this beer is a triple threat. Congratulations to everybody at Everywhere!

ISM Interloper | Intercontinental Pilsner (4.7%): A herbal and gently hoppy Pilsner from the ISM Brewing team in downtown Long Beach, Interloper draws from two distinct lager traditions in its constitution. German Pilsner malts and classic Noble hops Saaz and Hallertauer Mittelfrüh form the basis, while Sterling proves to be the bifurcating element. This Pacific Northwest varietal is descended from two of the most influential hops of the Old and New Worlds: the aforementioned Saaz and Cascade. Floral and spicy tones tantalize, while the low ABV (alcohol-by-volume) encourages more interloping!

Faction / Riip Bergs of a Feather | Hoppy Black Lager (5.8%): Join me in welcoming Faction Brewing back to the Southern California market! Having disappeared from our shelves in late 2023 after its longtime distributor closed up shop, Faction has been newly picked up and is once more available around here. This Alameda operation does outstanding hoppy beers across the board, with particular emphasis upon pale ales. This one-off collaboration with Riip Beer Co. out of Huntington Beach is a schwarzbier generously hopped with Krush, Mosaic and Nelson ‒ a lager for those nostalgic for the days of black IPAs.
