The theme of this week’s column is the forthcoming clash of sports teams this weekend!

Boulevard Tank 7 | Farmhouse Ale (8.5%): The flagship of the Smokestack Series from venerable Kansas City craft brewery Boulevard Brewing, Tank 7 is a sterling example of an American saison. Brewed with a touch of corn to lighten the body and fermented at high temperatures for maximum attenuation, Tank 7 is far too easy to consume considering its ABV (alcohol-by-volume). This beer is a year-round staple on our shelves but will surely be popular for fans of the midwestern team competing this Sunday!

Off Color Beer For Huddles | Amber Ale (5.2%): The current issue of The New Yorker features a lovely article on the topic of modern-day adoration of capybaras by (the very funny) Gary Shteyngart. In addition to all of their other activities, it appears they also play football ‒ at least if Chicago’s Off Color Brewing is to be believed! The avatar of this brewery is a plucky little mouse, who on the label of this beer appears to be the quarterback of a rodential football team. Listening intently are a group of capybaras, ready for the next play. Drink this beer while making important collective decisions, or during nail-biting moments of the big game!

Victory Golden Monkey | Belgian-style Tripel (9.5%): While Prima Pils holds a special place in my heart, and Storm King helped introduce a generation of drinkers on the Eastern Seaboard to the delights of imperial stouts, for many people Victory Brewing is synonymous with Golden Monkey. Inspired by the strong blonde tripels of Belgium, this beer utilizes the clove-laden yeast characteristic of that wonderful land, for a candied-orange and at once phenolic effect. Victory is far and away the predominant brewery we have access to from Pennsylvania, so pick up a six-pack of these if you are a fan of the winged team this weekend!
