Alvarado Street / Ghost Town Nose Cone | West Coast Double IPA (9.2%): What happens when two of the finest hoppy breweries in Northern California combine their powers? Brewed in honor of San Francisco Beer Week, this assertive West Coast double IPA is a mash-up of two celebrated recipes: Double Cone from Alvarado Street Brewery and Nose Goblin by Ghost Town Brewing. Each were back-to-back gold medalists in turn at the Great American Beer Festival in the highly competitive Imperial IPA category, making this an all-star team of a beer. This one is for the hopheads!
Wayfinder Sacred Labyrinth | Czech-style Pilsner (5%): At this point, any new Pilsner from Portland’s Wayfinder Brewing is a must-try. The ineffable combination of Bohemian Pilsner malt and Saaz hops is a winning formula for a reason! Let your imagination take wing as you ponder the hypnotic label while enjoying a pint of crisp, clean lager. As with labyrinths the world over, sometimes it is the exploration rather than the destination…
Crooked Stave Nightmare on Brett | Barrel-aged Dark Sour Ale (10%): Not seen in bottles around here since late 2022, Nightmare on Brett all but defines the unusual “dark sour” category. Alongside Tart of Darkness by The Bruery ‒ which I would characterize as a “Flanders Black” ‒ this beer was an eye-opener for a generation of craft-beer drinkers. It takes a lot of talent to tease out the nuances, as roast and acidity can easily pull in opposite directions. Beautifully integrated acetic acid and Leopold whiskey barrels make for a memorable nightmare!
