What We're Drinking 2026

Another round of all fresh hops this week!

Seek Orderly Chaos | Fresh Hop West Coast IPA (6.2%): The local option! From where I sit typing these words, I could walk to Seek Beer Co. in about 15 minutes (or bike there in three or four, traffic on El Cajon Boulevard depending). Co-founder Dave Ohmer and his crew have stuffed this beer with C-hops: Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and relative newcomer Comet. This one is truly limited, so if all of the above appeals to you, come on down for a can!

Human People Petrichor | Fresh Hop West Coast IPA (6.8%): Better-known in the world of wine and mezcal tasting, petrichor is the smell of fresh-fallen rain upon soil or stone. This fantastic beer smells of Simcoe, however, in heaps! Sourced from Coleman Agriculture in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, this piney, earthy varietal is one of my personal all-time favorites ‒ and given the fresh-hop treatment here, it really sings. Many thanks to Human People Beer for sending some of their fresh-hopped beer in our direction!

Fremont Fresh Hop Lush | Fresh Hop West Coast IPA (7%): Fremont Brewing in Seattle helped put Cryo Hops (also known as “lupulin powder”) on the map with the debut of Lush almost a decade ago. The ineffable combination of Citra and Mosaic, amplified by the then new-wave method of hops additions, made for a bona fide phenomenon ‒ at least in my professional and social circles back then! This seasonal edition puts its thumb on the Citra scale, with fresh whole-cone as well as Cryo in the mix.
