The Original 40 releases People’s Crown
A North Park brewpub introduces a Bavarian-style Pilsner that pairs exceptionally well with one of its German-inspired food-menu items

North Park brewpub, The Original 40 Brewing, has released People’s Crown, a Bavarian-style Pilsner.
People’s Crown comes in at 5.1% alcohol-by-volume with delicate herbal and floral notes on the finish. It’s a crisp, drinkable light lager with medium bitterness. The beer is available on draft and in four-packs of 16-ounce cans.
“We’ve got summertime weather in San Diego, and this refreshing beer should quench the thirst of our neighbors and visitors who stroll through the craft-beer mecca of North Park,” said Head Brewer Kyle Fjalstad. “You can’t go wrong pairing a Bavarian People’s Crown with our freshly baked giant Bavarian pretzel.”
The Original 40’s “On the Lighter Side” tap list now includes three options: People’s Crown, Crispy Boi helles lager and Baja Soul Mexican-style lager.
“Bavarian Pilsners are very pale in color and characterized by their low ester production – due to the lower fermentation temperature – and a very light sulfuric taste,” said Fjalstad. “That, coupled with Tettnang and Perle hops, which are found in the southern parts of Germany, create a light lager with subtle floral notes that is extremely crisp and refreshing.”
