SD Beer Weekend returning

Summer companion event to San Diego Beer Week to feature custom glassware

The second annual SD Beer Weekend (presented by the San Diego Brewers Guild) will take place Friday, June 9 to Sunday, June 11. The now-annual celebration of the local independent craft-beer scene is a prelude to fall’s San Diego Beer Week. Limited-edition commemorative pint glasses featuring San Diego-themed artwork will be sold at participating breweries to highlight the festivities.

“With National Beer Day on Friday, April 7, we figured this was an opportune time to announce the dates,” said Guild Executive Director Paige McWey Acers. “Beer Weekend is simply another fun initiative we created to urge San Diegans to go out and support this great industry in our city. It serves as a great start to San Diego’s impeccable summer, as well.”

Breweries throughout San Diego County will hold events and offer to-be-determined beer specials that will be served in the pint glasses. A full list of participating breweries is available online.

SD Beer Weekend serves as a fundraiser, with Boelter, the maker of the glassware, which will donate a portion of the proceeds from pint glass sales back to the non-profit Guild. The artwork on the pint glasses was created by local designer Tyler Cristobal, founder of multidisciplinary studio Cristobal Design Company.

“The San Diego region is a diverse and dynamic melting pot of ideas and inspiration. The San Diego beer community is a direct reflection of this welcomed exchange of knowledge, passion and love for craft beer,” said Cristobal. “As diverse as its people, San Diego’s geography is equally dynamic, spanning endless coastlines to bustling urban zones, all the way to the mountains and deserts. San Diego beer reaches from surf to sand and welcomes all to partake in the celebration and love for independent, local craft beer.”

2022’s inaugural SD Beer Weekend celebrated the Guild’s 25th anniversary. The number of independent craft brewery locations has grown to more than 150 from only 15 in 1997, a tenfold increase. Known as The Capital of Craft™, San Diego County has the most craft brewery locations among all counties in the United States.
