San Diego On Tap: Mcilhenney Brewing

Sitting down with the first family of San Diego brewing at their Alpine environs

The latest of Ranch & Coast Magazine‘s series of videos spotlighting members of San Diego’s remarkable craft-brewing community finds host Brandon Hernández in the East County town of Alpine, going one-on-two with the father-son duo behind Mcilhenney Brewing. That business debuted earlier this year, but two decades prior, the Mcilhenneys were working to open their first business, the iconic Alpine Beer Co. After garnering a world-renowned reputation for its hop-forward and otherwise innovative beers, that interest was sold to Green Flash Brewing. For most, that would have been the end of the story, but the Mcilhenneys’ love of brewing and beer’s communal nature was such that they decided to have a second go at things. And since opening, they have been swarmed by fans new and old clamoring for their IPAs and other noteworthy creations. Get to know Pat and Shawn Mcilhenney and find out why craft-beer fans from all over make the pilgrimage to this small but mighty family-run brewery and tasting room.
