Burgeon Beer Co. shares scaled-down instructions for brewing up its flagship hazy
As part of our second-annual Homebrew Summer program, various San Diego County breweries will be sharing recipes for some of their most popular beers, which have been scaled-down for amateur brewers to try their hands at from the comfort of home.
We’re kicking off this professional-to-recreational info-sharing with the recipe for Juice Press, a hazy IPA that’s part of Carlsbad-based Burgeon Beer Co.‘s core line-up of beers. Read more about the history and composition of this NEIPA then download the recipe and give it a go.
Check back to San Diego Beer News throughout the summer for more recipes as well as release dates for beers developed by local homebrewers which will be brewed at local breweries and tapped in their tasting rooms. It’s going to be a great summer for homebrewers and beer fans alike, and we want you to be a part of it!
Juice Press was, and still is, Burgeon’s first core hazy IPA. This beer has seen many iterations since its inception, feeding our constant desire for dialing in a beer until we are extremely happy with the results. At one point it contained multiple base malts, utilized Simcoe and Vic Secret hops, and even two other yeast strains. Once we were able to source, secure and select Freestyle Hops-grown Nelson Sauvin we knew it would be the perfect pairing with Mosaic and Citra. In regards to our hazy beers, in general, we prefer them to be lighter bodied and not overly chewy, less sweet by allowing the beer to ferment out lower, and have a very restrained bitterness. For San Diego being known for West Coast IPAs, we all make some pretty damn fine hazies!”
