Pure Project unveiling new cross-street Biergarten

Brewery’s Bankers Hill tasting room debuting expanded outdoor imbibing options

The pandemic and its associated regulations have stifled many a local business, but one that’s kept going—and growing—is Pure Project Brewing. Two weeks ago, it debuted a satellite tasting room in Carlsbad Village. At first, that venue was open for to-go beer only, but the business was able to quickly add a food component to meet mandates required for on-premise beer consumption on its outdoor patio.

The Miramar-based company operates another tasting room in Bankers Hill. That spot’s outdoor seating is limited, but the company has developed a solution that will increase the number of patrons it can serve. Dubbed The Biergarten at Pure Project Balboa Park, it makes use of a previously empty 4,000-square-foot lot across the street from the tasting room. That new space features socially distanced picnic tables, burlap-wrapped plants and several shady elm trees, as well as five draft beers, plus canned and bottled offerings. The former will be available exclusively in pints.

The Biergarten will make its debut today at 11 a.m. Visitors must check in with a hostess at the main tasting room before selecting a seat on the patio or the biergarten. Pure Project Balboa Park’s hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for dine-in and to-go Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for dine-in and to-go on Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Wednesday for beer to-go only and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for beer to-go only, then 2-10 p.m. for dine-in and to-go on Thursdays.

Pure Project Balboa Park is located at 2865 Fifth Avenue in Bankers Hill.
