Pure at the Village set to open in Carlsbad

Miramar’s Pure Project Brewing to debut Carlsbad tasting room next weekend

In November 2018, Miramar-based Pure Project Brewing announced not one, but two satellite tasting room projects. The first, a 2,000-square-foot tasting room at the foot of the The Park, Bankers Hill building near Balboa Park, debuted last August. The second, a small yet dynamic spot in Carlsbad’s quaint Village area, has taken a little more time, but it’s almost ready for its public debut.

Pure Project Carlsbad (AKA, Pure at the Village), comes in at 1,200 square feet with an additional 300 square feet of outdoor patio space. Like its Bankers Hill predecessor, it was built by CLTVT designed by Ocean Beach architectural firm Tec/scape Design, whose goal was to create a concept that aesthetically connects to Pure Project’s other locations while offering unique features. Key in that was the use of Guanacastle wood throughout the space, which was fashioned by J3 Products Group. It’s the national tree of Costa Rica, the country where Pure Project’s founders had the initial idea to build a brewery.

“We are beyond excited to be opening this location in such a vibrant and growing community,” says co-founder Mat Robar, who envisions the Carlsbad location as a hub for their North County fans to enjoy Pure Project beers. It should also serve the company’s many fans in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. “This has been a labor of love for us over the past two years and we believe that we have created something really unique and special at this location.”

The tasting room offers north- and west-facing views but there’s plenty to see inside, namely barrels making up some of Pure Project’s beer-aging program. (Large casks will be added on at a later date.) Some of those matured beers will eventually share space with the 20 taps’ worth of ales and lagers—and beer slushies on select dates—available for on-site consumption and to-go via growlers, crowlers, cans and bottles.

UPDATE: Since this article published, Pure Project’s Carlsbad Village tasting room has been able to open for dine-in service. In compliance with state mandates, food must be purchased with all alcoholic beverage purchases. Pure Project has Señor Grubby’s as its culinary partner on Thursdays and Fridays, with El Puerto Carlsbad fulfilling that role on Saturdays and Sundays. All dining takes place outdoors in compliance with social-distancing restrictions, with proper sanitizing and utilization of masks by staff members.

The venue’s days and hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for to-go beer only, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for to-go beer only then 2-10 p.m. for dine-in and to-go on Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for dine-in and to-go on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for dine-in and to-go on Sundays.
