Nova releases first beer
Novo Brazil Brewing's hard-kombucha brand debuts lager made with coconut water
NOVA Easy Kombucha has released NOVA Beach Lager, which was brewed with coconut water and is a low 4% alcohol-by-volume. The small-batch pilot beer is available on draft and in six packs of 12-ounce cans at NOVA’s Ocean Beach taproom and its sister NOVO Brazil Brewing locations in Chula Vista and Imperial Beach.
Going by the name, NOVA Beach Lager, the beer was brewed with Sabro hops, which, according to Yakima Valley Hops, imparts distinct tangerine, coconut, tropical and stone fruit aromas, with hints of cedar, mint and cream. The beer has a distinct coconut-water aftertaste and comes in at 8 IBU (International bitterness units), which measures hop bitterness on a scale from zero to 100. Each 12-ounce serving also has just 100 calories.
“I believe this is the most refreshing lager you can find in all of San Diego,” said NOVA founder Tiago Carneiro. “Summer may be over, but our warm and sunny weather won’t go away quietly. NOVA Beach Lager should appeal to everyone, especially the casual beer-drinker who is looking for something really light on a nice day.”
NOVA Beach Lager is not sold in retail stores. The company’s Ocean Beach taproom, which recently expanded with a 1,600-square-foot game room to double its footprint, is located a half-mile from the OB Pier.
“This experiment couldn’t have turned out any better,” said Brewmaster Guilherme Hoffmann. “Brewing with coconut water is somewhat unique to the industry and I believe we came across something that is going to stick. NOVA Beach Lager fits the brand so well and it’s already starting to turn heads. I thank Tiago for being such a visionary, and I thank my entire team who made it all happen.”
