Mother Earth seasonal a departure from the norm
The last of Vista-based Mother Earth Brew Co. quartet of 2024 Four Seasons releases is a low-alcohol, oak-aged German-style festbier
Mother Earth Brew Co. is welcoming the holidays with the release of its seasonal autumn brew – part of the company’s rotating specialty series, “The Four Seasons of Mother Earth”.
Traditionally, Four Seasons (as it’s called for short) is a big, barrel-aged stout or barleywine for three-fourths of the program, with a collaboration filling in the warmer summer months, but Mother Earth deviated a bit this fall when the brewery elected to brew an oak-aged German-style lager coming in at a modest 5.9% alcohol-by-volume. The label is the typical elaborate affair, showcasing the gorgeous, flowing aesthetic that the series has become known for, but the liquid impresses equally.
“Using virgin, medium-toast oak casks, we laid down our German festbier just long enough to pick up some mild oak tannins to balance notes of honey, toasted bread and a touch of malt sweetness,” says Mother Earth Head Brewer Matt Waterson. “The malt base consists of premium Pilsen with an all-German specialty blend of Vienna and Munich. Noble hop varietals lend an appropriate earthy and herbal characteristic to achieve total balance to a complex, yet highly drinkable lager.”
Four Seasons Autumn ‘24 is available in 16-ounce cans and on draft throughout Mother Earth’s distribution network and at a craft retailer near you. Search their beer finder to locate it near you or try it at their taproom in Vista. For more information follow Mother Earth on social media or visit the company’s website.
