Since opening a brewery celebrating ales, lagers and the U.S.’s World War II allies in a remote corner of an industrial center in Miramar in 2016, Little Miss Brewing has aggressively advanced its cause and expanded its footprint, opening tasting rooms all throughout San Diego County.
Owners Greg and Jade Malkin started off in higher-profile locales like Normal Heights before an attempted entrance into Ocean Beach fell apart just a year into the company’s existence. That negative, financially impactful experience inspired them to explore areas with less of a craft-beer presence, including spots like Lakeside, where Little Miss’ tasting room became the community’s first-ever local beer venue.
Today, the company boasts the largest number of locations of any of the county’s brewing concerns with 10. It’s an impressive stat they will be able to stand behind for one more day, as the Malkins have made the tough decision to shutter all of them after one final service on Friday, March 14.
“These are trying times for the entire craft-beer industry. So many breweries are suffering and the industry as a whole is hurting. We’re not immune to it,” says Greg. “Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t weather the storm. After months of working with investors to either raise funds or restructure, we’ve come up short.”
Following tomorrow’s swan song, the Malkins will be selling the brewing equipment at their Logan Heights headquarters as well as their the equipment, fixtures and interest in the leases at their tasting rooms.
“We’re offering the tasting rooms at discounted rates, and no reasonable offer will be refused,” says Greg. “Time is of the essence, so we understand that offers might be lower than they would’ve been in the better days, but we’re prepared for that.”
In addition to Logan Heights, Lakeside and Normal Heights, Little Miss operates venues in downtown San Diego’s East Village, Escondido, Poway, Kearny Mesa, La Mesa, Chula Vista’s Eastlake neighborhood and a bar inside Balboa Park’s San Diego History Center. Malkin invites interested parties to reach out to him via email.
