Karl Strauss squares things up
Region's longest-operating brewery to celebrate release of Tower X² Double IPA at its San Marcos satellite
Karl Strauss Brewing, San Diego’s longest continuously operating post-Prohibition brewing company, will release Tower X² Double IPA on draft and in four-packs of 16-ounce cans on at its five San Diego locations on Thursday, June 13. At 8.5% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), the beer is a stronger version of core beer Tower X West Coast IPA, which was released last year and comes in at 7.3% ABV.
A Tower X² release party will be held at Karl Strauss’ San Marcos beer garden, The Outpost, from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. The event is free to attend and will mark the third event in the brewery’s 35th anniversary celebration series. It will also serve as a prelude to the third annual SD Beer Weekend, which will take place June 21 to 23.
All Karl Strauss beers will be $6 during the aforementioned event, and the company’s food truck will be on-hand selling special taco combination plates, plus quesadillas for kids. Fat Bottom Girl Bakes will also be on-site selling desserts infused with Karl Strauss’ beer.
“Drinking a Tower X² is much simpler than solving an algebra problem, I can guarantee you that,” said Karl Strauss Brewmaster Paul Segura. “Nothing says San Diego summer like a thrilling beer that is sure to pack a punch.”
Tower X² has elevated notes of citrus and pine, a medium body and a dry finish with a lingering citrusy hop bitterness. Tower X was originally named in honor of collaboration partner 91X FM Radio and Karl Strauss’ origin story from Tower 10 in Mission Beach in 1989. 91X will broadcast live from The Outpost San Marcos during the release party.
“This continues to be a special year for Karl Strauss,” said Chief Experience Officer Jen Briggs. “We were the first San Diego brewery, we are still considered one of the best and we continue to evolve to remain one of the best. Tower X² is yet another great way to enjoy our San Diego summer.”
The Outpost San Marcos is located at 1293 Armorlite Drive, two blocks north of the 78 freeway off the Las Posas Road exit.
Tower X² will also be available at restaurants, bars and retail locations throughout San Diego. Visit the brewery’s Beer Finder for more information.
