Karl Strauss debuts core lager
San Diego's longest-operating beer company releases year-round lager, Follow the Sun
Karl Strauss Brewing, San Diego’s longest continuously operating post-Prohibition brewing company, recently released Follow the Sun Lager as a new core beer. The 4.2% alcohol-by-volume brew is available on draft and in six packs of 12-ounce cans at Karl Strauss’ five San Diego County locations in 4S Ranch, Carlsbad, Downtown San Diego, San Marcos and Sorrento Mesa.
The light-bodied American lager has notes of crisp malt and a subtle hop bitterness. The beer’s launch also marks a change in Karl Strauss packaging. Follow the Sun will be joined by core beers Aurora Hoppyalis IPA, Boat Shoes Hazy IPA and Tower X West Coast IPA in 12-ounce cans later this spring.
“The words ‘crisp’, ‘clean’ and ‘refreshing’ are thrown around a lot with lagers, but we really feel like we hit that trifecta with this beer,” said Karl Strauss Brewmaster Paul Segura. “Karl has been a staple in San Diego since 1989, and Follow the Sun symbolizes our passion for sharing not only our craft, but a piece of the beautiful city we get to call home with people from all over.”
Several restaurants, bars and retailers are also carrying Follow the Sun. Karl Strauss’ Beer Finder displays all current locations where it’s available. Additionally, Follow the Sun will be available in 19.2-ounce cans at select sports and music venues.
Karl Strauss is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2024. Details on future anniversary events will be released in the coming weeks.
