Homebrew Summer: High Tide

Season-long drinkability is the key motivation for Pacific Beach AleHouse's head brewer sharing his helles bock recipe

If there’s a fermentationist in America’s Finest City who knows what it takes to brew up a super-drinkable beer that’s perfect for savoring along with sunny San Diego weather and coastal views, its Dan Enjem. This veteran brewer has been crafting a flavorful variety of crushers mere steps from the ocean at Pacific Beach AleHouse for half a decade. His liquid assets go down particularly well on an open-air second-floor deck that’s optimal al fresco imbibing. Even if you don’t have a beachside perch like that (yes, we’re jealous, too), you can still replicate one of his most summer-friendly recipes, High Tide Helles Bock. A pale lager coming in on the slightly stronger side, alcohol-wise, it was designed for everyday enjoyment. Scroll on to take a look at the recipe and file it away it for your future domestic brewing adventures.

New beer recipes will debut weekly throughout the summer, so be sure to check back with San Diego Beer News on a regular basis (or subscribe to our free weekly email newsletter and we’ll send all the recipes straight to your inbox). Cheers and happy homebrewing!

Why did you choose to share this recipe and do you have any tips for homebrewers?
I chose this helles bock recipe because it is a clean and refreshing lager that can be enjoyed anytime of the day or night. It is also the perfect beer for a beer and a shot. It’s simple but flavorful, with an easy-drinking character that makes it a perfect beer to have on the kegerator all summer long.
