Homebrew Summer: Beach Buzz
Pacific Beach AleHouse's head brewer continues his generous streak, sharing the recipe for a honey-infused blonde his colleagues adore

Each year, when throwing up the bat signal to see which local brewers are interested in contributing recipes and expertise to our Homebrew Summer program, there’s one guy we know we can count on. That regular, reliable participant is Dan Enjem, the head brewer at Pacific Beach AleHouse. He’s teamed with homebrewers and contributed homebrew-scaled recipes of some of his house beers. This year he’s doing the latter, contributing how-to instructions for crafting Beach Buzz, a honey-infused blonde ale Enjem’s coworkers can’t seem to get enough of. Consider it insider info on a beer beloved by those on the inside.

This beer is a staff favorite. Light flavor and aroma characteristics coupled with a higher alcohol content make it extra-appealing. And the subtle flavor and aroma of the base beer really complement the honey addition.
Any tips for homebrewers using this recipe?
By adding the honey during the whirlpool stage, you can keep its flavor and aroma intact. Idaho 7 hops add to the citrus complexity of the beer, but you can use any citrus-forward hop varietal.
New homebrew recipes and pro-am beer release information will be posted to our site throughout the summer, so check back with San Diego Beer News on a regular basis (or subscribe to our free weekly email newsletter and we’ll send all the recipes and release information straight to your inbox). Cheers and happy homebrewing!
