Homebrew Summer: Ascent

Mother Earth Brew Co. is back in the swing of Homebrew Summer, sharing a scaled-down recipe for its new year-round beer, Ascent IPA

This is far from the first run around the block for Mother Earth Brew Co. where our Homebrew Summer program is concerned. There have been years when they contributed multiple homebrew-scaled recipes for their popular commercial beers. It’s what one would expect from a company that started out as a nano-brewery in the back of a sister homebrew supply outlet. This year, MEBC is back and sharing the recipe for its newest year-round beer, Ascent. That West Coast IPA debuted in February and has been turning heads since. Brew it on the home front and see if you can turn some heads of your own!

We chose to share the Ascent recipe because we are excited to have a new beer in the market that showcases our ability to highlight hops other than Mosaic and Citra. In this beer, we look for Strata to exhibit tropical fruit and strawberry notes, wit a touch of dankness. It’s something we’re proud of and want to share with the world.

Any tips for homebrewers using this recipe?
Utilize the freshest hops you can find, and consider steeping them in room-temperature water to evaluate aroma prior to dry-hopping. And when brewing, manage pH (potential of hydrogen) as closely as possible. Use lactic, citric or phosphoric (whichever you prefer) to balance mash pH, end of boil pH and final beer pH.
