They only come around once a year during hop harvest…beers brewed with fresh, whole-cone hops delivered farm-to- brewery within 24 hours of picking. Beer doesn’t get any fresher or greener than that! In honor of fresh-hop season, San Diego Beer News Executive Editor Brandon Hernández presents a trio of local fresh-hop beers from El Cajon Burning Beard Brewing, North County-based Belching Beaver Brewery and Julian’s Nickel Beer Co. Not only that, he brings the brewmaster from the latter, Tom Nickel, to discuss this green, verdant type of beer. He not only brews more of them than any other San Diego brewer, but also rounds up 20 or so each year for the annual Wet Hop Festival at his other business, Kearny Mesa’s O’Brien’s Pub.
