Brewery X opens Harbor Island satellite

Anaheim-based operation with San Diego roots brings craft brews and scenic views to Harbor Island

Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, a premier waterfront retreat on Harbor Island in the heart of San Diego Bay, today announced the opening of Brewery X Harbor Island, a collaborative venture with Brewery X, a popular SoCal brewery founded by San Diego State University (SDSU) alumni. This latest addition is part of the hotel’s $100 million renovation and new culinary programming, designed to “Bring the Best of SoCal” to the resort property.

San Diego born and Southern California raised, Brewery X Harbor Island will offer a SoCal brew pub all-day experience with expertly crafted approachable beverages, craveable chef-driven bar bites and laid-back vibes. The dog-friendly patio and seasonal activations, including live music, trivia nights and game-day viewing parties, will always give guests a new reason to visit.

“Having the only brewpub right on the water in San Diego Bay offers a truly unique experience,” said Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina General Manager Sean Clancy. “Guests can enjoy a pint and casual bites while watching the boats sail by, capturing the essence of the San Diego lifestyle.”

From noon till night, Brewery X will serve chef-crafted burgers, gourmet salads, hearty handhelds and festive fries, all made with market-fresh produce and intentionally simple yet sophisticated preparations. Shareable starters include a variety of wings; the signature “Crack Taco” with American cheese, crisp iceberg lettuce and crack sauce; and “Craft Impasta”, a creamy mac ‘n’ cheese with barley crumble. Entree selections include the Kitchen Sink Salad combining romaine lettuce, pretzels, salami, ricotta salata and avocado-lime dressing; the Burger X topped with chipotle 1,000 island dressing, American cheese and house pickles; and the bacon-wrapped S.O.K. Dog with fried onions, MX cheese sauce and candied serrano peppers. Additionally, the Brewery X menu features several brick-oven-baked pizzas, including the Walter White with provolone, Parmigiana, ricotta, mozzarella, roasted garlic and oregano; and vegetarian Fit-Ish pie layered with roasted vegetables, lemon, nutless pesto, Calabrian chili oil and lemon zest. Dessert highlights include a Cheesecake “Shandy” featuring a lime and lager cheesecake, with citrus beer curd and berries; and a Boozy White Russian Float.

Brewery X’s origin is deeply rooted in San Diego, where CEO Clayton Wellbank and Chief Brewing Officer Trevor Walls first met at SDSU. Walls, who began brewing in his Ocean Beach garage, now holds a Master Brewing degree in Brewing Sciences & Technology, and has brewed at notable establishments including Pizza Port and Ballast Point Brewing. At Brewery X, Walls focuses on creating “great clean true beers” without unnecessary additives, producing approximately 30,000 barrels per year with plans to increase production to 100,000 barrels.

“Opening Brewery X Harbor Island is a dream come true,” said Wellbank. “Since our university days in San Diego, we have had a passion for the city’s vibrant culture and small-town spirit. Bringing Brewery X to this location allows us to reconnect with a place that has been integral to our journey.”

Brewery X Harbor Island will feature a robust selection of the brand’s most popular beers and hard seltzers brewed at the company’s Anaheim-based headquarters, as well as options from some of San Diego’s most popular brewers including Stone Brewing, Alpine Beer Co. and Societe Brewing. Beer highlights include light and easy-drinking options such as Brewery X ‘Shhh Wheat’, ales including Karl Strauss Red Trolley, and several rotating seasonal “dark and malty” and “hoppy” selections. Featured seltzers include the brand’s own hard seltzers, Calidad Agua Frescas, and Juneshine Hard Kombucha.

Cocktail fanatics can also select from a variety of creative options including the Peach You Out, combining Knob Creek bourbon, Southern Comfort, Cointreau, lemon juice, simple syrup and peach purée, and the It’s Mint to Be with Bacardi Superior Rum, strawberry-mint simple syrup, strawberries, lime juice, mint leaves and soda. Rounding out the beverage menu is a selection of red, white and sparkling wines.

Brewery X takes great pride in the process of unadulterated beer production while also experimenting with creating new favorites. They were also early adopters of craft-brewed hard seltzers and are known for mixing and matching different flavor profiles anchored using fresh, natural ingredients and chef driven combinations.

“Our beer selection at Brewery X Harbor Island will feature our core brews that our fans know and love, alongside a unique lineup of crafted beers and signature hard seltzers specifically for this San Diego location,” said Walls. “Guests can look forward to enjoying our signature ales and lagers, as well as exclusive brews that reflect the local beer culture.”

Brewery X is open seven days a week. Food is served daily from 11 a.m. to midnight; and bar hours are 11 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
