Beer of the Week: Sundancer
Rincon Reservation Road Brewery's Berliner weisse fitting for its resort environs
From the Beer Writer: We may be in the midst of San Diego Storm Watch 2023, but before we know it that SoCal sun will again be an ever-present fixture in our lives. I’m not complaining. I’ll finally be able to use that hammock I got for Christmas, allowing me to get some resort-life vibes going in my backyard. Local beer will, of course, go a long way to completing that staycay setup. For those who will go the extra mile and hit up Harrah’s Southern California up in Valley Center, there will be a new beer there that is produced on the premises and will nicely complement 75-and-sunny springtime lounging. It goes by the name of Sundance and it’s the latest brew to debut from tribal-owned Rincon Reservation Road Brewery. A Berliner-style weisse released last month in conjunction with the beer concern’s three-year anniversary, it was such a hit that they’re keeping it around. Expect a brisk, light-bodied thirst-quencher with light, lemony tartness up front giving way to flavors akin to green apple and a pleasant wheatiness in the finish.
From the Brewer: “Our 4.5% (alcohol-by-volume) Berliner weisse is an easygoing style that can be a great introduction into the world of craft beer. I wanted to highlight the creative nature and nuanced flavors that a beer can produce. This ties perfectly into the creative, nuanced culture and people of the Luiseño tribes. Craft beer has an ability to diversify taste preferences but overall bring people together, just like the diverse culture and life of the Luiseño Indian people can and do every day.”—Zeth Devore, Head Brewer, Rincon Reservation Road Brewery
