Beer of the Week: Roadhouse

13 Point Brewing kicks out a chocolate stout in honor of its three-year anniversary

From the Beer Writer: Tomorrow will be a big day for 13 Point Brewing. Lemon Grove’s only brewery will hold its third-anniversary festivities, something that’s particularly significant since the business wasn’t able to celebrate its two-year milestone last year due to the pandemic. So they’re going big, inviting multiple bands to rock the day away and opening their parking lot to a variety of food trucks. Of course, it wouldn’t be much of a party without beer, and one of those sudsy offerings is this week’s featured beer: Roadhouse Chocolate Stout. Inspired by The Doors’ classic “Roadhouse Blues”, this rich and roasty yet incredibly drinkable brew is a nice departure from most local breweries’ anniversary practice of brewing up an industrial-strength IPA. Kudos to the 13 Point crew for going their own way (a line inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s classic “Go Your Own Way”), and, in doing so, bestowing an extremely well made stout on the local beer community.

From the Brewer: “‘Well, I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer, and it was Roadhouse chocolate stout. This beer likes to go down slow. With a pale tan head and a deep black body, it stands tall and stout. With chocolate, coffee, malt and vanilla in the nose plus a slight toffee finish, it draws you in to that first sip with eager anticipation. When you finally get it to your mouth, it’s roasted coffee notes and rich maltiness are rounded out by a dry cocoa finish. This beer comes in at 7.1% ABV (alcohol-by-volume) and is available on nitro and CO2.”Robert Bessone, Head Brewer, 13 Point Brewing
