San Diego Beer News' founder spends a week at ALT 94.9 FM, letting listeners know what to expect at the 2025 SDBN Awards ceremony
In anticipation of the local brewing industry’s biggest night of the year, the San Diego Beer News Awards, the beer fan behind the event, Brandon Hernández, joined fellow ale-and-lager fanatic Jeremy Pritchard at ALT 94.9 FM‘s studio to give listeners an idea of what to expect at this year’s event, which will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 at Societe Brewing in Kearny Mesa. Monday: Brandon shares that he and his former colleagues from The Indie Beer Show will be getting back together to host this year’s event. And since Societe is the host venue, he and Jeremy crack a fresh can of their iconic IPA, The Pupil!
Tuesday: The nomination and voting process for the San Diego Beer News Awards is detailed. Appropriately, they “crush” the most vote-getting beer in the five-year history of the event, Burgeon Beer Co.‘s Mosaic pale ale, Carlsbad Crush.
Wednesday: A string of kind words for the San Diego Beer News website transitions to complimentary conversation about The Indie Beer Show cast and the producer of last year’s winner in the Pilsner category, Seek Beer Co. That gold-medal quaff is called Fortune and goes down nicely over the airwaves.
Thursday: This segment is all about very special honors, the Customer Service Award and Vanguard Brewer Award. The latter is voted for exclusively by members of the industry and recognizes brewers who have made positive contributions to San Diego beer culture. Last year’s Vanguard Brewer was Paul Segura from Karl Strauss Brewing, so the beer of the day is that company’s Golden Stout.
Friday: Brandon and Jeremy close out the week with another award-winner from last year’s San Diego Beer News, Year of the Mamba, a Filipino-style lager from GOAL. Brewing. They also put the word out about the first-ever official San Diego Beer News Awards After Party at O’Brien’s Pub.
