Wayfinder Terrifica | Italian-style Pilsner (4.7%): A three-way collab with Heater Allen and Modern Times Beer, Terrifica pays homage to the Italian horror filmography of the 1970s and 80s, especially the works of Dario Argento. Considered among the foremost filmmakers in the subgenre known as giallo, Argento and his peers arguably helped shape an entire generation of slasher films, with John Carpenter specifically citing him as an influence on his magnum opus Halloween. This self-described “Horror Pils” leans heavily on Noble hops, with Spalt Select and Tettnanger on the hot side. A further charge of Tettnang is joined by the high alpha-acid Polaris for a terrifyingly aromatic clean lager.

Allagash Haunted House | Hoppy Porter (6.66%): Don’t go in there! Dotted with gloomy estates and faded grandeur, the woodlands of New England have long been a setting for haunted-house stories. Portland’s very own Allagash Brewing breathes new life into the genre with an ominously roasted ale hopped with Chinook, Saaz and Tettnang. The eldritch opaque hue allows no light to shine through, while the ABV (alcohol by-volume) mysteriously falls right at 6.66%, surely a coincidence…?

Beachwood Blendery Dia de los Mangos | Spicy Fruited Sour Ale (6.8%): Beachwood Blendery manages the impressive balancing act of maintaining fidelity to the Belgian lambic tradition while simultaneously adding novel SoCal-specific ingredients to their creations. Dia de los Mangos combines mango, tamarind and chili to a funky, oak-fermented ale. Early iterations were very fiery, but after some adjustments the Blendery has turned the dial down on the capsaicin. With the sugar-skull motif of Dia de los Muertos on the label, this is a beer for the first of November if ever there was one!
