Alvarado Street Timbo Pils | Hoppy Pilsner (5.8%): Easily the most beloved hoppy pilsner in Los Angeles, Timbo by Highland Park Brewery has grown to encompass an entire week of celebrations each year. To honor this now-iconic beer, other breweries around California cook up their own edition with HPB’s blessing. I was at the new Cellarmaker Brewing headquarters in my hometown of Berkeley over the weekend and took a four-pack of their spectacular iteration to-go. Meanwhile, Alvarado Street Brewery generously sent some cases of their take on Timbo as part of our latest pallet-drop from Salinas. Since we rarely see Highland Park beers around San Diego, drink this one in tribute!

Everywhere Deep Breaths | Czech-style Pilsner (4.6%): Everywhere Beer is a comparatively new operation out of Orange, the seat of Orange County. Early tap takeovers at Bottlecraft Long Beach and North Park Beer Co. alerted us that they were a rising talent to watch! Deep Breaths utilizes floor-malted Bohemian barley and Saaz hops; a classic formula that requires little tinkering. This beer was a hit upon debut back in March of this year, so we doubled down by ordering a keg and plenty of cases. The low ABV (alcohol-by-volume) ensures repeated cans are consumable punctuated by steady respiration.

Ayinger Oktoberfest-Märzen Märzen (5.8%): It is mid-August, which means that the fest biers have begun to land! I have had the distinct privilege of tasting scores of Märzens over the years and yet Ayinger Oktoberfest-Märzen remains my absolute favorite. In fact, there is no beer that I more look forward to every year as autumn approaches. The brewery is located in the eponymous village of Aying, directly south of Munich. The beer itself is a coppery, goldenrod hue and completely clear. Bready barley malts, light caramel and a whiff of chestnuts appear on the aroma. The bottom-fermenting lager yeast, as well as the lagering process itself, make for an astonishingly bright finish, crisp and clean.
