Cellarmaker Wicked Juicy | Hazy IPA (7%): With the merger of The Rare Barrel and Cellarmaker Brewing complete, and the combined firm now headquartered in my hometown of Berkeley, the beer must flow. Wicked Juicy (the adjective nodding towards Boston argot to emphasize the Northeastern origins of the style) is a hazy single IPA with Citra, Simcoe and Galaxy, and is a must-have for any local hopheads this week.

pFriem Japanese Lager | Rice Lager (5%): I fell in love with this beer during my first visit to Tacoma in the autumn of 2021, occurring fortuitously during wet-hop season (which the locals call “fresh-hop season”). Tip of the hat to the 6th Avenue Beer Star there for their fantastic selection! This lager boasts vibrant carbonation, a gentle sushi-rice starch aroma and impeccable crispness. Only ten cases of this pitch-perfect rice lager were shipped to San Diego, so stock up!

Prairie Super Pistache Brothers | Imperial Pistachio Stout (13.6%): Comic-Con may have come and gone in our town, but this slyly satirical gaming-themed imperial stout remains. Prairie has foregrounded pistachio nuts in this decadent barrel-aged offering, alongside dark chocolate, marzipan and hazelnut roasted coffee. The label depicts a certain fraternal pair doing battle with anthropomorphic pistachio nuts in a classic video game aesthetic.
