As part of our charity initiative, San Diego Beer News Gives Back, we have established online fundraisers for a quartet of local causes and non-profit organizations nominated by San Diego County breweries. This week, we are spotlighting the great work of Beer for Boobs.
From December 19-25, San Diego Beer News will match donations made to this charitable group fighting breast cancer on multiple fronts via our GoFundMe fundraiser *, which was organized in collaboration with Beer for Boobs and its parent company, White Labs.
Established in 2008, Beer for Boobs conducts year-round fundraising activities focusing on the brewing industry and beer fans. These include sales of merchandise at brewery events and beer fests, including the Great American Beer Festival, as well as silent auctions, beer dinners, collaboratively brewed fundraising beers, and corporate-sponsorship drives. The money raised pays for Beer for Boobs members’ registrations to participate in Susan G. Komen‘s 3-Day and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walking events.
Beer for Boobs was the vision of White Labs co-founder Lisa White, who lost her mother to cancer in 2016. Five years later, her stepmother was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer during her routine mammogram. It’s those familial occurrences that got she and her volunteers started. What keeps her going are the hundreds of connections forged hearing other people share their stories during educational events, beer festivals and other fundraisers.
“We really hate cancer and believe in awareness 100%,” says White. “We encourage people to do their breast exams, help educate partners on finding tumors in their significant others. We remind women to get their mammograms scheduled and help empower them to be their best advocate for health. Finding tumors early is key for survival.”

WHERE YOUR DONATIONS WILL GO
The following are some examples of what donations to Beer for Boobs will support:
- Purchase of breast-exam prosthetics for use in educating people on how to properly self-perform monthly breast exams.
- Various breast-cancer educational efforts.
- Efforts to extend breast-cancer education to local high schools and community colleges.
- Participant registration in local editions of Susan G. Komen’s 3-Day and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walking events.
- Distribution of “Warrior Totes” for cancer patients, including a beanie, water bottle, writing pad and pen, ChapStick, soft blanket, eyebrow makeup, and more.
