Saint Archer Brewing ramps up R&D series

Miramar company rolling out local beers ranging beyond national portfolio

Earlier this year, during the Miramar-based company’s seventh anniversary, Saint Archer Brewing introduced a new rotational line of beers. That celebratory IPA was the first in director of brewery operations Yiga Miyashiro and company’s R&D Series. The next R&D beer was Saint Archer’s edition of Black is Beautiful, a blended beer (60% imperial stout, 30% Woodford Reserve bourbon whiskey barrel-aged imperial stout, 10% pale ale) brewed to support the Black Lives Matter movement with proceeds going to the San Diego branch of the NAACP. That dropped last month, followed closely by a Slow Pour Pilsner dry-hopped with French oak chips.

Today marks the release of the latest R&D Series release, Rose Sour. This wine-beer hybrid was created in collaboration with Clairemont-based Domaine Sante, using sustainably harvested grapes from Lodi Valley. The grapes were pressed and lightly heated to produce nectar. Saint Archer professes to be the first to utilize this nectar for beer-making. It’s most commonly used in cocktails and baking. Like its predecessors, Rose Sour is available exclusively at Saint Archer’s locations in Miramar and Leucadia. A collaboration

While dates are subject to change, R&D Series beers scheduled to be released over the next two months are as follows:

  • Tuesday, August 6: Japanese Lager
  • Thursday, August 27: Citra Crisp
  • Thursday, September 10: Hazy Mango IPA
  • Thursday, September 24: Festbier

R&D Series beers are packaged in four-packs of 16-ounce cans and can be picked up at the aforementioned venues, which are closed except for to-go beers, curb-side pickup or delivery within 10 miles of Leucadia and 20 miles of Miramar.

Saint Archer Brewing’s production brewery and tasting room are located at 9550 Distribution Avenue in Miramar. Its Leucadia tasting room is located at 978 North Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas.
