Pure Project wades into N/A waters

Vista-based brewery joins the growing number of American craft breweries adding non-alcoholic beer options to their beverage portfolios

Having celebrated a decade in the craft-beer industry, while managing a quintet of taprooms and an onslaught of new beer releases – including Rewild West Coast pale ale, a rare addition to its year-round portfolio of beers – 2026 has been a big year for Pure Project Brewing. But they’re not done yet, and the latest big development for the Vista-based enterprise involves their smallest-ever beers…from an alcohol-content standpoint, as least.

Today, Pure Project is releasing its first non-alcoholic (N/A) beers, joining a growing contingent of craft brewers testing out the once-flat waters of what is now a fast-growing segment of the beverage industry.

Pure Project’s initial N/A offerings are an IPA going by the name Grounded and a blonde ale called Sunsip. The latter is an everyday sipper replete with flavors of freshly baked bread, jasmine and lemon peel, while the IPA gets its citrus-fruit notes from Pacific Northwest hop varietals, Citra and Simcoe. Both come in below 0.5% alcohol-by-volume and are available in four-packs of 16-ounce cans.

“We’ve been eager to share our brewing ethos with the world of N/A beer, and we’ve been able to achieve that goal while embracing the quality and standards that are at the core of our craft,” says Pure Project co-founder and Brewer Winslow Sawyer. “With these releases, we’re excited to give people more options to support beer for good, even when they are looking for a non-alcoholic beverage.”

That “beer for good” refers to Pure Project’s efforts to raise awareness and funds for the positive work of eco-friendly and community-based organizations, a guiding tenant of the 1% for the Planet company. A prime example of that philanthropic bent is the aforementioned Rewild, from which a portion of all sales are being donated to WILDCOAST to support that conservation non-profit’s replanting of mangrove forests in Mexico.

Consumer interest in non-alcoholic beer is at an all-time high and still rising. For proof of the success that can be had by catering to beer-drinkers looking for high-quality N/A options, one need look no further than Miramar’s own Athletic Brewing. In eight years, that bi-coastal N/A beer company has grown into the country’s largest producer of N/A beer, as well as the sixth-largest craft brewery in the U.S. and the 15th largest brewing entity overall by production volume.

While Pure Project’s goals in the N/A segment are nowhere near as ambitious as Athletic’s, the companies share a long-established focus on producing high-quality beer. That devotion to being a cut above – a hallmark of the craft-beer industry – is what has allowed artisanal brewers to overshadow and outperform below-par beers from legacy N/A producers which, for so long, were the only options available.

Pure Project’s N/A beers are available year-round at all of the company’s taprooms, as well as retail locations where its beers are sold.
