Prairie Seasick Crocodile | Sour Ale (6.3%): Oklahoma’s Prairie Artisan Ales is at it again with their canned sour creations! With ugly-sweater iconography depicting Santa Claus being pursued by a crocodile in an embroidery aesthetic, they have nailed the can-art as per usual. A tart beer dosed with cranberries for sugar and acidity, ginger for the high-toned burn, and the ineffable wintry combination of cinnamon and nutmeg, this croc won’t last the calendar year.
El Segundo Santa’s Secret Stash | Rum Barrel-aged Christmas Ale (10.6%): Christmas Break isn’t just a hallowed tradition ‒ it is also the name of the annual winter release from El Segundo Brewing up near LAX. We look forward to receiving this malty and spiced festive ale every December ‒ and this year, for the very first time, another version arrived alongside! Santa’s Secret Stash is the base edition of Christmas Break aged up in Rhum JM barrels, a venerable rhum agricole producer from the French Caribbean island of Martinique. This one will warm you right up!
St. Bernardus Christmas Ale | Belgian Winter Ale (9.8%): With its signature cheerful monk cheekily sporting a Santa hat, the Christmas Ale from St. Bernardus instantly announces a festive demeanor. The (secular) brewery located in Western Flanders has real cachet, having worked for decades with the famed Westvleteren Trappist abbey the next town over. Based on their immensely popular Abt 12, a pitch-perfect quad by style, the Christmas Ale has a touch of spicing from their expressive estery yeast. This one is my personal favorite of the Belgian winter warmer category, and an annual treat. Vrolijk Kerstfeest/Joyeaux Noël!
