May is a big month for San Diego’s northerly neighbors in Temecula and Murrieta. Not only will their biggest event of the year, the three-day Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival, take place May 19-21 (and feature a beer garden stocked with local beers) but it’s Temecula Valley Craft Brew Month. The latter will feature an array of discounts at participating breweries and chances to win prizes by visiting those ale-and-lager establishments. In honor of that month-long affair, San Diego Beer News founder and Executive Editor Brandon Hernández brought a quintet of beers from Temecula and Murrieta operations for FOX 5 Morning News anchor Raoul Martinez to sample. Those craft offerings hail from Temecula’s Black Market Brewing, Ironfire Brewing and Oscar’s Brewing, and Murrieta ops, 8 bit Brewing and Garage Brewing, and show off the fact that in addition to the Valley’s well-known wineries, a solid brewery scene awaits just up Interstate 15.
