Trillium Fort Point | Hazy IPA (6.6%): I was living in the Greater Boston area when Trillium started up, and distinctly recall the first beer I tasted of theirs ‒ a farmhouse ale. How times have changed! In the intervening years the brewery became renowned (alongside fellow Massachusetts operation Tree House) at the forefront of the New England IPA as the substyle evolved into being. Nowadays the common word is “hazy”, but the initial terminology recognized the highly regional nature of its origins. Fort Point is both the neighborhood in which the brewery is situated as well as their flagship offering, replete with Citra and Columbus.
Seek / Bock Festbier | Wies’n-style Festbier (5.3%): As I write these words, Dave Ohmer of Seek Beer Co. has just dropped off this beer at the shop! Commissioned for our fellow Drink Good family member Bock Bar, this is firmly in the Wies’n style of a festbier, with more Pilsner malt than Munich malt. Lighter-bodied and cereal-forward with a hint of toastiness, this is an ideal festbier for the hottest month of the year in San Diego! Spalter Select hops give a kiss of bitterness to balance everything out again. Cheers to Seek and many thanks to Dave and his team!
Bottle Logic Mass Action | Pastry Stout (14.5%): This beer is bananas! No really, this huge dessert stout is just laden with banana, marshmallow and coconut. An imperial stout was aged up in bourbon barrels before getting the ice-cream-parlor treatment. Only the second release of this recipe from Bottle Logic ‒ the initial debut was four years ago ‒ Mass Action is an unabashed celebration of decadence. Go ahead, live a little!
